Kids enter an unfinished story world and write their way through plot twists, missions, and chaos, with challenges calibrated to their level. They come out with a stronger voice, sharper craft, and a real sense of how to build a story.

Meet Your Crew

Battle the Story

The story fights back. Mid-session, the Chaos System hits: a plot twist, a voice shift, a character who refuses to cooperate. You're not just writing the story. You're wrestling it into submission.

03.

Complete Your Contracts

Each session comes with a contract: a mission from Plot Twist Ink with a concrete writing skill built into the objective. Nail it, and you earn the ability to pull the story somewhere only you could take it.

Come Out a Writer

Session 10 is the Season Finale, with the biggest twist yet. Every student walks away with a digital artifact built from their actual writing — moving images, interactive elements, and the full arc of the story they made.

Two Game Modes

Collaborative

The whole crew writes the same story together. Different voices, different choices, one shared world that everyone is shaping in real time.

Split Universe

Each student writes their own story inside the same universe. The crew still meets, shares, and supports, but spend your "StoryPower" and you can drop a chaos event directly into someone else's narrative.

MEET UPPER MANAGEMENT

Joe headshot
Founder

Joe Skoff

Chief Narrative Officer · Head of Chaos

Joe is the architect of the PTI universe: the world designer, the session facilitator, and the person who spent an unreasonable amount of time figuring out how to make writing feel like a game worth playing. He is an English teacher, has led hundreds of young students through the process of writing and publishing full novels, is a produced playwright with three off-Broadway plays to his name, and an award-winning screenwriter. The Chaos System is his fault.

His philosophy is simple: kids don't hate writing. They hate the blank page, the red pen, and cookie-cutter instruction. The moment you remove these things and replace them with chaos, excitement, and a story that needs them, something shifts. PTI exists to manufacture that moment, over and over, for every kind of kid.

The goal should not be to make better writers. It should be to make kids feel like writers. The skills follow.

RULEBOOK + FAQ

The idea behind Plot Twist Ink, what happens inside a session, and why it actually works.

How a Session Works

You log onto Zoom and your crew is already there. Every session starts with a warm-up that drops you straight into the world. You pick up where last session left off, read the latest chaos, argue about what it means, and decide what to do next. Then you write. Individually, collaboratively, in rotating roles. Ninety minutes later, the story has moved somewhere nobody predicted.

The Idea and Why It Works

Writing instruction usually fails because it's abstract. PTI makes it concrete: every skill has a purpose, every purpose drives the story forward. Students get a contract each session: a writing mission with a real craft skill baked into the objective. They're not learning to write. They're writing to matter. Learning science calls this desirable difficulty. The chaos does the teaching.

Actually Looks Like

🎯 The Game Plan Drop

The facilitator reveals this session's story objectives. Where is your crew's narrative going? What needs to happen? Players read the room, strategize, and decide their opening move.

✍️ Main Writing Block

Students write. Individually, collaboratively, or in rotating roles. Real creative work on the page: scene by scene, voice by voice, advancing the season's story arc.

🌀 The Chaos Drop

Without warning: a twist. Write this next scene in your villain's voice. Your main character just lost their memory. Add an unexpected visitor. Players must adapt. Right now.

🎭 Writers' Room Share

Crews share what they wrote. Reactions, feedback, and the inevitable moment where someone's story went somewhere nobody expected. The room responds. Players riff off each other.

⚡ StoryPower Accounting

Points are awarded, spent, and tracked. Did you take a creative risk? Help a crewmate? Nail the chaos twist? The leaderboard updates. Season stakes rise.

What students leave with
The Story

A full collaborative narrative with a beginning, middle, and a finale their crew presents together. Real pages. Real plot. Characters they invented and wrestled through ten sessions.

The Digital Artifact

A custom designed, living PDF built around their specific story. Moving images. Their actual writing. The visual identity of the world they helped create. Something worth opening again, and sharing.

The StoryPower Record

Every bold choice, every contract completed, every risk taken: documented. Not a grade. A creative track record that shows who they became as a writer across ten sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions
// everything parents ask before enrolling //

What ages / grades is this for?

PTI is designed for grades 4–12 (roughly ages 9–18). The game scales well, younger students focus on storytelling instinct and collaboration; older students develop voice, structure, and creative risk-taking. Unsure? Schedule a free info session and we'll give you an honest answer.

My kid says they hate writing. Is this right for them?

Especially them. PTI uses scaffolding — purposeful integration of new ideas at a specific pace — so students never face the blank page alone. The story is already there. They just have to write their way through it.

What if my child misses a session?

Because PTI is collaborative and builds session to session, missing affects both your child and their crew. We ask families to commit to at least 8 of 10 sessions. If something comes up, reach out early, we'll catch your child up and get them back in the game.

Is it competitive? Will my kid feel behind?

StoryPower has a light competitive layer, but it rewards collaboration as much as individual performance. There's no "behind" in PTI: the Chaos System throws everyone off course equally. The culture is collaborative, not ranking-focused.

What does a session actually look like?

90 minutes: a brief Game Plan briefing, a main writing block with chaos elements introduced throughout, a short collaborative review, and StoryPower accounting at the end. There's music, energy, and always at least one moment where someone's story goes completely sideways and the room loses it. No silent worksheets. No grammar drills.

In-person or online?

Both. After-school programs run in-person at partner schools, but most sessions take place through Zoom.

How does payment work?

After you submit the enlistment form, your spot is held. A payment link will follow by email. Need a payment plan? Reach out directly.

What's the refund policy?

Full refund if you cancel 7+ days before Session 1. 50% refund 3–6 days before. No refund within 48 hours. If PTI cancels for any reason, you receive a full credit toward next season.

Can schools or programs bring PTI in?

Yes, actively building this. PTI offers school licensing, facilitator certification, and Season Kits trained staff can run without us in the room. Email hello@plottwist.ink to schedule a Partnership Briefing.

SOLO ARC

For the writer

Your own set of missions. Your own arc. Each session drops you into a constraint, a genre, a challenge you wouldn't have picked yourself. And you write through it. No right answer. Just you, your mentor, and the page.

Solo Arc
For the parent

Every mission is designed to build a specific skill: voice, pacing, tension, point of view. The creative constraints aren't decoration. They're the training. Each session ends with a finished artifact: proof of growth, session by session.

★ HOW THE ARC WORKS ★
Mission drop

Your mentor assigns a constraint: a genre, a rule, a strange starting line. Productive struggle is the point. The limit is what makes you grow.

Write live

You write in session, with your mentor reading alongside you. No prep required. No homework pressure. The creativity happens in real time.

Skill debrief

After each mission your mentor names what you did: the specific craft move that worked. You leave knowing what you're getting better at and why.

Artifact saved

Every finished piece becomes part of your arc: a growing body of work that shows where you started and how far you've come.

★ WHO IT'S FOR ★
The reluctant writer

Hasn't found their way in yet. Solo Arc removes the audience pressure of a group and lets them discover what they actually like to write.

The serious writer

Already loves writing and wants to get better fast. Missions are calibrated to push past comfort zones and develop real craft skills at their level.

The portfolio builder

Grades 9–12, building toward college apps or a writing sample. Portfolio Sprint focuses the arc into a polished body of work with revision built in.
